South Alabama Pitcher Hannah Campbell Named NFCA All-American for Second Straight Season

Former South Alabama pitcher Hannah Campbell earned NFCA third-team All-America honors, her second straight All-America selection, after posting a school-record 0.95 ERA.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama pitcher Hannah Campbell has been named an All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association for the second consecutive season, adding to the list of program firsts she has compiled during her career.

Campbell, a native of Satsuma, Ala., was named to the NFCA third team this year after earning second-team honors as an at-large selection last season. She is the only player in South Alabama softball history to earn All-America recognition.

Campbell was also an All-South Region selection in each of her four seasons with the Jaguars, including three first-team selections.

Record-Setting Senior Season

Campbell finished the 2014 season with a 0.95 ERA, a South Alabama single-season record and the second-best mark in NCAA Division I. She helped the Jaguars’ pitching staff lead the nation in team ERA at 1.29.

She allowed just 0.76 walks per seven innings, another program record and the third-lowest rate in the NCAA. Campbell went 18-6 with 176 strikeouts, allowing 159 hits and 26 earned runs in 192 1/3 innings.

Campbell was a top-25 finalist for the 2014 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award and was named first-team All-Sun Belt Conference for the second straight year. She led the Sun Belt in ERA, called third strikes, saves, fewest earned runs allowed, fewest walks allowed and fewest home runs allowed.

Professional Career Begins

The Akron Racers selected Campbell third overall in the 2014 National Pro Fastpitch draft. She is the first South Alabama softball player to reach the professional level and the first female student-athlete in school history to be drafted by a professional league.

In Akron she will be joined by her twin sister, Lannah Campbell, who pitched collegiately at UAB and is the first UAB softball player to reach the professional ranks. The sisters will be teammates for the first time since playing together at Satsuma High School.

Lannah Campbell earned All-Conference USA honors twice, making the second team in 2012 and the first team in 2013. She was also named to the NFCA Mideast Region second team in 2013 after leading Conference USA with six saves and leading UAB with 180 strikeouts.

The Racers opened their season Thursday night with a 4-0 win over the Chicago Bandits. Neither Campbell sister pitched in the game.
