A longtime Jackson dentist has been recognized with one of the dental profession’s most selective honors. Dr. Stanley R. Beard, who has treated patients in Clarke County and the surrounding area for more than 35 years, has received the Mastership Award from the Academy of General Dentistry.
Beard accepted the honor, known as the MAGD, during the academy’s annual convocation held in Las Vegas in June. According to the academy, fewer than 2 percent of general dentists nationwide ever reach this level of recognition.
The Mastership designation is reserved for dentists who go well beyond standard requirements for continuing education and hands-on clinical training. Candidates must first attain Fellowship status with the academy, then complete more than 1,100 hours of academy-approved coursework, including at least 400 hours of hands-on instruction spanning every major area of general dentistry.
Academy officials describe the award as reflecting years of advanced study and clinical preparation aimed at improving the care patients receive. With this recognition, Beard becomes one of more than 4,200 dentists worldwide to hold the Mastership designation.
“Receiving the MAGD is certainly an honor, but the real reward has always been earning the trust of my patients,” Beard said. “Dentistry is constantly changing, and I believe it’s my responsibility to keep learning so I can provide the best care possible. If there’s a better way to help the people who trust me with their smiles, then it’s worth every hour of study.”
Beard has pursued the additional training on evenings and weekends throughout his career, fitting continuing education around the demands of running his practice. He has said his goal throughout has been to bring newer techniques and treatment advances home to the patients he serves in the communities around Jackson.
