A Daphne child care center that has served Baldwin County families for years is operating under a new name. Little Crusaders Learning Center announced Sept. 2 that it has become Curiosity Cove Early Learning Center, a change the center says reflects how it believes young children actually learn.
Along with the new name comes a new partnership: Curiosity Cove is collaborating with Gulf Regional Early Childhood Services, the region’s child care resource and referral agency.
The Name Is the Argument
The center framed the rebrand as a statement of educational philosophy rather than a marketing refresh. The new name, it said, is rooted in the belief that children learn best when they are encouraged to wonder, explore, question and discover.
“We wanted a name that captures the sense of possibility children bring with them each day,” Rivers Calvert said in a news release. “Curiosity Cove reflects the joyful, hands-on learning environment we want to create — a place where children feel safe to explore their world, develop new skills and grow into confident learners.”
That framing — safety first, exploration second — is the order most early childhood practitioners would put it in. A child who does not feel secure does not explore, and a child who does not explore does not learn much from being in a room full of materials.
What Is Not Changing
The center was direct about the limits of the change. Families can expect the same focus on caring educators, meaningful relationships and helping every child learn and thrive.
“Despite the changes in branding, the heart of its program will remain unchanged,” the center said, adding that it will build on the relationships, care and commitment families have come to know and trust.
For parents of young children, that is the sentence that matters. Consistency of caregivers is one of the few variables in child care that families can feel day to day, and a name change that arrives without staffing upheaval is a different event than one that does not.
The GRECS Partnership
The second half of the announcement is arguably the more substantive one. Curiosity Cove is partnering with Gulf Regional Early Childhood Services, known as GRECS, which serves as the region’s child care resource and referral agency.
Through the collaboration, the two organizations said they will combine shared values, early childhood expertise and additional support to strengthen the center and its services for children and families.
Child care resource and referral agencies occupy a specific place in the early childhood system. They connect families looking for care with providers who have openings, and they work on the provider side as well — offering training, technical assistance and support that individual centers, particularly smaller ones, would struggle to assemble on their own.
For a single-site center, that kind of institutional backing can mean access to professional development and program support that would otherwise be out of reach.
What Families Will See
Families will begin seeing the Curiosity Cove name alongside a new visual identity. The center said additional information about the transition will be shared directly with families as it becomes available.
In practice, a rebrand of this kind rolls out over weeks rather than overnight: signage, paperwork, email addresses and enrollment materials tend to change on different schedules. Families who encounter both names during the transition should expect that to sort itself out.

Daphne is among the faster-growing communities in Baldwin County, and demand for licensed early childhood care has grown with it. An established center changing its name and adding a regional partner is, in that context, less a cosmetic event than a signal about where a long-serving provider intends to go next.
