The high school basketball season got its unofficial tipoff Thursday as the second annual Mobile/Baldwin Basketball Media Day brought coaches and players from across both counties to Ladd Peebles Stadium.
The event gave area programs a stage to preview their teams ahead of the 2019-20 season, with each school addressing reporters about returning talent, new schemes and expectations for the winter.
Schools rotated through speaking slots throughout the day, including Baldwin County at 8:30 a.m., McGill-Toolen at 10:15 a.m., Cottage Hill at 12:30 p.m. and Mary G. Montgomery at 3:45 p.m., among others from Mobile and Baldwin County.
Now in its second year, the media day has quickly become a preseason fixture for Gulf Coast hoops, giving smaller programs the same spotlight as traditional powers and giving local media a one-day snapshot of the entire regional basketball landscape.
