Fans heading to Friday night’s football game between Murphy High School and McGill-Toolen Catholic High School will be able to drop off help for neighbors still digging out from Hurricane Sally.
The Murphy Panther tailgaters are gathering relief supplies at the game, giving Mobile residents one convenient place to hand off donations on their way into the stands.
What organizers are asking for
Suggested donations include bottled water, non-perishable food, tarps, rope, tools and baby supplies. Those items have been in heavy demand since the storm tore off roofing, downed trees and left thousands of homes across Mobile and Baldwin counties without power.
Supplies can be dropped off at McGill-Toolen’s stadium, known as The Lip, on Michael Boulevard.
The collection is one of a growing number of grassroots efforts organized by schools, churches and neighborhood groups across the Mobile area in the days after Sally came ashore on the Alabama coast, as families waited on power crews, insurance adjusters and debris pickup.
