ORANGE BEACH, Ala. — Neighbors have a reason to skip cooking a full dinner tonight. The Orange Beach community potluck, hosted monthly by the Orange Beach Community Association, is set for Monday, Oct. 5, at 6 p.m. at the Orange Beach Community Center, and everyone is welcome.
The association will provide roast beef as the main course, and a guest speaker is on the evening’s program. Those attending are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share.

Annual Membership Dues Collected in October
October’s dinner doubles as dues night. The association will be collecting membership dues for the 2026-2027 season at tonight’s gathering.
Dues are $10 per member. That money helps pay for the main entrée, drinks and paper products the association supplies at each monthly dinner, which allows the potluck to keep running from month to month.
For residents who plan to attend several dinners over the season, paying dues tonight is a simple way to support the gatherings and take care of the year’s membership in one stop.
A Monthly Tradition From September Through May
The Orange Beach Community Association hosts a potluck dinner every month from September through May, with no dinners held during the summer months.
The dinners are designed to give residents a regular, low-key chance to share a meal, meet the people who live around them and hear from guest speakers. Longtime members and first-timers alike are encouraged to come.
Guest speakers are a regular feature of the gatherings. In past seasons, the potluck has featured local leaders such as Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon and Police Chief Trent Johnson, giving residents a chance to hear about city matters in a relaxed setting. The association has not announced who will speak at tonight’s dinner.
About the Orange Beach Community Center
The Orange Beach Community Center is on Canal Road and serves as a gathering place for meetings, classes, events and community functions throughout the year.
For newcomers to the area, the monthly potluck is an easy introduction to the center and to the people who use it.
What to Bring: Ideas for Sides and Desserts
Because the association is providing roast beef, sides that pair well with it are a natural fit. A few easy ideas:
- Vegetables: green beans, roasted carrots, a fresh green salad or coleslaw
- Starches: mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, rice dishes or dinner rolls
- Desserts: pound cake, brownies, cookies, banana pudding or a fruit cobbler
Bringing your dish in a container with a lid and a serving utensil makes setup easier. A small card listing the dish’s name, and noting common ingredients such as nuts, dairy or shellfish, can help guests with dietary needs decide what to try.
Potluck Food Safety Tips
Shared meals are a great way to sample a variety of home cooking, and a few simple food safety habits help keep everyone healthy. The U.S. Department of Agriculture offers these general guidelines:
- Keep hot foods hot at 140 degrees Fahrenheit or higher until serving time.
- Keep cold foods cold at 40 degrees or below; a cooler with ice packs works well for transporting salads and desserts made with dairy.
- Follow the two-hour rule. Perishable food should not sit at room temperature for more than two hours, or more than one hour when temperatures are above 90 degrees.
- Use clean utensils for each dish so foods are not cross-contaminated.
How to Join Tonight’s Orange Beach Potluck
There is no need to sign up in advance. Anyone who wants to attend can simply come to the Orange Beach Community Center tonight at 6 p.m. with a side dish or dessert, or with $8 to cover a plate.
Those who want to become members for the season can bring $10 for 2026-2027 dues. Whether you are a longtime resident or new to town, tonight’s dinner offers good food, a guest presentation and a chance to meet your neighbors.
