Jack Springs Road will shut down entirely on Monday, Sept. 14, beginning at 4 a.m.
The Poarch Creek Indians announced the temporary full closure Friday as work continues on the road improvement project. The closure begins just north of Dollar General and is expected to last all day, barring unforeseen utility conflicts or construction delays.
The Detour Has Changed
Drivers who have navigated previous closures on this project should not assume the same route applies.
“During the closure, traffic will be detoured from Jack Springs Road along Ewing Drive, Green Road and Parades Road before returning to Jack Springs Road,” Poarch Creek Indians officials said.
“This route differs from previous detours and is designed to improve traffic flow and safety by keeping vehicles farther from the active work zone.”
That explanation is worth noting. The new routing is not an arbitrary change — it deliberately increases the distance between moving traffic and the crews working on the road, which is the principal safety concern in any active work zone.
Law Enforcement on Site
Additional support from the Poarch Creek Indians Police and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office will be present at the work site and along the detour route to help maintain safe travel conditions.
Stationing officers along the detour itself, rather than only at the closure point, reflects a practical reality: a detour that routes unfamiliar traffic onto smaller residential roads creates its own congestion and conflict points.

Officials encouraged motorists to:

- Allow additional travel time
- Follow posted detour signs
- Use caution when traveling through the area
The 4 a.m. start means the closure is in effect before the morning commute begins. Drivers whose routine includes Jack Springs Road should assume they will need the detour from their first trip of the day.
