MOBILE, Ala. — The Mobile waterfront will take on the feel of an open-air R&B club next month, when Port City R&B brings a free night of music and dancing to Cooper Riverside Park.

The concert is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, from 7 to 11 p.m. Admission is free.

The lineup features three DJs from Atlanta — Jaycee, Pnut and Stormy — with Levi Sims serving as host for the evening. Organizers say special surprise guest performances are also planned throughout the night, though the names of those performers have not been announced.

A Night of R&B on the River

Port City R&B is designed as an evening of R&B music, dancing and community along the Mobile River. With four hours of programming, the event offers plenty of time for guests to settle in, catch up with friends and enjoy a night out downtown without paying a cover charge.

The choice of DJs from Atlanta is a fitting one. Atlanta has long been regarded as one of the most influential cities in American R&B and hip-hop, and its club and DJ culture has helped shape the sound of popular music across the South for decades. Bringing that energy to Mobile’s riverfront gives local music lovers a chance to experience it close to home.

The event’s name is a nod to Mobile itself. “The Port City” is one of Mobile’s best-known nicknames, reflecting the city’s centuries-old identity as a seaport and its long connection to the waterfront where the concert will take place.

What to Bring

Because the concert is outdoors, guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs for comfortable seating. Local food trucks will be on site throughout the evening, giving attendees a variety of options for dinner and snacks without having to leave the park.

A few practical suggestions for concertgoers:

  • Bring a lawn chair or blanket. Organizers specifically encourage guests to bring their own seating.
  • Plan to eat on site. Local food trucks will be serving throughout the event.
  • Dress for the weather. Early November evenings on the Gulf Coast can be mild, but temperatures near the water can feel cooler after dark.
  • Check for updates. Because the event is outdoors, plans are subject to change due to weather.
  • Arrive early. Free events can draw large crowds, and arriving early can make it easier to find parking and a good spot on the lawn.

About Cooper Riverside Park

Cooper Riverside Park sits along the Mobile River on the edge of downtown Mobile, offering open green space and views of the river and its ship traffic. The park is a popular setting for outdoor gatherings, festivals and concerts thanks to its waterfront location and proximity to downtown restaurants, hotels and attractions.

For guests who want to make a full evening of it, the park’s downtown location puts it within reach of many of the city’s dining and entertainment options.

Weather Could Affect Plans

Organizers note that because Port City R&B is an outdoor event, plans are subject to change because of the weather. Anyone planning to attend should check for updates closer to the date, particularly if rain is in the forecast.
