A 49-year-old Chickasaw man has died after being shot while sitting inside his own vehicle in Prichard, according to police, who say the case remains unsolved.
Timothy Russell was in his car in the Alabama Village neighborhood near Dunlap Circle when he was struck by gunfire in the early afternoon. He was rushed to USA Medical Center, where he died later that night from his injuries.
Family members described Russell as a warm and well-liked man with no known enemies. A relative, Kaylyn Stanford, said she could not imagine anyone holding a grudge against him, calling him “a sweet guy.”
Prichard Police said the case would be upgraded to a homicide investigation following Russell’s death, but as of this report no arrests have been made. Investigators have not identified a motive or named any suspects.
A police spokesman said the department is continuing to work the case and is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact Prichard detectives directly.
The shooting is the latest in a string of incidents in the Mobile area involving gunfire striking occupied vehicles.
