Clarke County’s Sierra Murphy Wins National Parents as Teachers Choice Award
Clarke County parent educator Sierra Murphy received the Parents as Teachers Choice Award at the organization's conference in Portland, Ore. Families' nominations earned her the honor.
CLARKE COUNTY, Ala. — Sierra Murphy, a parent educator with the Clarke County Parents as Teachers program, received the organization’s Parents as Teachers Choice Award at its annual conference in Portland, Ore., Oct. 5-8, the program announced.
How the award works
The award recognizes parent educators whom families have highlighted through the national Parents as Teachers story submission process, in which families describe the positive impact the educator has made in their lives.
The Clarke County program said Murphy goes above and beyond to meet families’ needs through home visits, family support, developmental guidance and connections to community resources.
“The fact that families took the time to share their stories and nominate her for this award speaks volumes about the trust, support and encouragement she provides every day,” said Donna Nelson of the Clarke County Parents as Teachers program.
The conference
Parents as Teachers hosts its International Conference each year for home visiting professionals and early childhood leaders. Organizers said the 2026 gathering in Portland, held under the theme “Navigate,” was expected to bring together about 2,500 home visiting professionals, early childhood leaders, researchers and others.
