GROVE HILL, Ala. — The Regional Child Advocacy Center is accepting nominations for the annual Eddie Slayton Memorial Award, which recognizes dedication to serving children in Clarke, Washington and Choctaw counties. The deadline is Jan. 8, 2027.

Who qualifies

The award is named for Eddie Slayton, a longtime member of the center’s board of directors. Nominees should show an exemplary commitment to children through their profession, their volunteer work or both, and should have brought about a significant benefit to children in the three counties. Board members and staff of the Regional Child Advocacy Center are not eligible.

How to nominate

Nomination forms are available at the center, 127 West Cobb Street in Grove Hill. The award will be presented at the center’s annual banquet on March 6 at the H.G. Pearce Memorial Assembly House in Jackson. Last year’s winner was Patti Christopher of Butler.

About the center

The Regional Child Advocacy Center serves Choctaw, Clarke and Washington counties. In January 2026, the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs announced a $67,020 grant to the center for services that include emotional support, help bringing offenders to justice and community education about child abuse, funded through the U.S. Department of Justice.
