South Alabama baseball opens Sun Belt play at Troy while the 21-4 softball team hosts No. 22 Louisiana-Lafayette at Jaguar Field.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama’s baseball and softball teams both open Sun Belt Conference play this weekend, with the baseball team traveling to in-state rival Troy and the softball team hosting No. 22 Louisiana-Lafayette at Jaguar Field.

Baseball at Troy

The Jaguars enter the three-game series in Troy, Ala., with a 15-3 record after winning five of their last six games.

The scheduled pitching matchups are:

  • Friday, 6 p.m.: South Alabama’s Jacob Noble (3-0), making his fifth start of the season, against Troy’s Tanner Hicks (3-0)
  • Saturday, 6 p.m.: Brandon Boyle (0-1) against Will Starling (3-1)
  • Sunday, 1 p.m.: Jarron Cito (0-1) against Shane McCain (3-0)

South Alabama leads the all-time series with Troy 36-28. The Jaguars are 10-17 all-time in games played in Troy and 11-16 against the Trojans in Sun Belt play since 2006.

All three games will be broadcast on 105.5 FM WNSP.

Softball Hosts Louisiana-Lafayette

The South Alabama softball team brings a 21-4 overall record into its Sun Belt opener and has won all six of its home games this season. Louisiana-Lafayette, ranked 22nd nationally, leads the Sun Belt in nearly every offensive statistical category.

Pitcher Hannah Campbell threw her first career no-hitter last week in a 3-0 win over UC Santa Barbara. Her 0.90 earned run average ranks among the top 10 nationally.

The teams last met in the Sun Belt Conference tournament, where South Alabama beat Louisiana-Lafayette 3-1 to win its first Sun Belt softball championship. The Ragin’ Cajuns, five-time conference champions, had swept the regular-season series between the teams.

South Alabama and Louisiana-Lafayette will play a doubleheader Saturday and conclude the series Sunday. The games will be streamed live through the All-Access section of USAJaguars.com.
