Farish Beard Throws First Career No-Hitter as No. 18 South Alabama Softball Routs Troy 9-0

Farish Beard struck out 10 and threw her first career no-hitter as No. 18 South Alabama beat Troy 9-0 at Jaguar Field for her 20th win.

MOBILE, Ala. — Farish Beard threw the first no-hitter of her career Wednesday, striking out 10 of the 17 batters she faced as No. 18 South Alabama defeated Troy 9-0 in a run-rule game at Jaguar Field.

Beard walked two and earned her 20th win of the season in the Farish Beard no-hitter. Eight South Alabama players recorded hits in the victory.

Climbing the Record Book

The 10 strikeouts gave Beard 169 for the season, the fifth-highest single-season total in South Alabama history.

Opponents are batting .148 against Beard this season, and she has a 1.89 earned run average. With two outs and runners in scoring position, opposing hitters are batting .109 against her, and one-third of those at-bats have ended in strikeouts.

Home Schedule Complete

The win closed South Alabama’s regular-season home schedule. The Jaguars finished 17-3 at Jaguar Field this season.

Sun Belt Race

South Alabama (41-7) leads the Sun Belt Conference standings with a 17-3 league record, ahead of Western Kentucky at 15-3.

The Jaguars have two regular-season games remaining, a doubleheader at Troy on May 4 that will decide the season series. The Sun Belt Conference tournament will follow at the Troy Softball Complex.
