MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama softball pitcher Farish Beard was named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday, the second time she has won the award this season.
A Dominant Weekend
Beard went 3-0 in three starts, striking out 36 batters in 18 innings, an average of two per inning. She allowed two hits and no earned runs over the weekend.
Her outing against UT-San Antonio was the second no-hitter of her career. She struck out a career-high 15 batters in that game, the second-highest single-game total in South Alabama history. She also threw complete-game shutouts against Ohio and UTSA.
Conference Leader
Beard improved to 9-1 and lowered her ERA to a Sun Belt-best 0.15. She also leads the conference in opponents’ batting average, wins, fewest runs allowed (four) and fewest earned runs allowed (one).
Beard was first named Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 10 after her performance at the Mardi Gras Invitational. A South Alabama player has now won a Sun Belt weekly award in three of the season’s first four weeks, with Blair Johnson earning Player of the Week honors last week.
Up Next
South Alabama travels to Boca Raton, Fla., this weekend for the Parents’ Weekend Invitational, hosted by former Sun Belt member Florida Atlantic. The Jaguars are scheduled to face Marshall, Virginia Tech, Illinois and Florida Atlantic, and will play Illinois a second time.
