MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama baseball opened its 2013 season with a three-game sweep of Stephen F. Austin at Eddie Stanky Field, rallying for a walk-off win Friday before winning 10-0 and 13-4 in the final two games of the weekend.
Ninth-Inning Rally in Opener
The Jaguars trailed entering the bottom of the ninth inning Friday night. Brent Mitchell lined a two-run single down the left-field line to tie the game, and one batter later Robby Campbell lifted a sacrifice fly that brought home the winning run for a 7-6 victory.
Noble Sharp in Debut
Jacob Noble made his South Alabama debut in the second game and threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out seven and allowing two hits. Brandon Boyle followed with three strikeouts and allowed one hit as the Jaguars completed a 10-0 shutout.
Big Eighth Inning Seals Sweep
In the series finale, the teams were tied 4-4 entering the bottom of the eighth. South Alabama then scored nine runs in the inning to pull away for a 13-4 win and the sweep.
Up Next
South Alabama, now 3-0, hosts Alabama State at Eddie Stanky Field on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The Jaguars then host former Sun Belt Conference opponent New Orleans in a three-game series next weekend.
