BATON ROUGE, La. — South Alabama erased a 12-point deficit and beat LSU 79-75 in overtime, with Freddie Goldstein’s jumper at the end of regulation sending the game to an extra period.
Augustine Rubit led the Jaguars with a season-high 20 points. Xavier Roberson added a career-high 19, and Antoine Lundy scored a career-high 13. Javier Carter recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Second-Half Comeback
LSU led 61-50 with about eight minutes left in regulation before South Alabama answered with seven consecutive points. After an LSU field goal ended the run, two baskets by Lundy and one by Carter tied the game at 63.
Rubit gave South Alabama its first lead since the first half with 3:01 remaining. The teams traded baskets before LSU made two free throws to go ahead 67-66 with 2:13 left, and two more free throws pushed the Tigers’ lead to three.
Goldstein Forces Overtime
Goldstein made one of two free throws with about 18 seconds left to cut the deficit to two. South Alabama kept possession when the rebound of his missed second attempt went out of bounds off LSU. Goldstein then hit a jumper at the buzzer to tie the game 69-69.
Overtime
Carter opened the scoring in overtime with two free throws. LSU answered with two free throws of its own, but Roberson made two key baskets for the Jaguars. Rubit sealed the win with a field goal with 24 seconds left in the extra period.
