South Alabama fell to UAB 82-58 and lost to LSU in the Coors Classic, dropping to 2-3 ahead of Wednesday's game at Alabama.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama basketball is 2-3 after losses to UAB and LSU, with a trip to Tuscaloosa to face Alabama on Wednesday.

Season to Date

The Jaguars opened the season with an 81-53 win over Spring Hill College at the Mitchell Center, then lost 93-58 at Southern Miss in Hattiesburg. South Alabama rebounded with an 82-76 overtime victory over Central Michigan.

UAB Pulls Away

Against UAB, South Alabama struggled with its shooting early but used a 12-3 run late in the first half to trail by three at halftime.

The Blazers opened the second half with a 10-0 run that included back-to-back 3-pointers. After Augustine Rubit made two free throws, UAB followed with a 15-0 run. The 25-2 stretch put the Blazers ahead 61-35, and UAB went on to win 82-58.

LSU Hot Early in Coors Classic

South Alabama hosted LSU in the Coors Classic at the Mitchell Center on Sunday. The Tigers made 12 of 17 3-point attempts in the first half, shooting 66.7 percent from the field and 76.9 percent from 3-point range to build a 48-23 halftime lead.

LSU extended its lead to 28 points with 15:10 remaining before its shooting cooled. A 15-5 South Alabama run cut the deficit to 13 with 2:50 left, but the Jaguars made only one more field goal and got no closer than 12. Martino Brock led South Alabama with 15 points.

NCAA Penalties

The program is also playing under NCAA penalties tied to its Academic Progress Rate. After two players left the team while academically ineligible, the NCAA took away two scholarships and reduced the team’s weekly practice time from 20 hours to 16.
