MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama used a 17-3 second-half run to pull ahead of Dillard and held on for an 82-73 men’s basketball win Tuesday night at the Mitchell Center, snapping a three-game losing streak.
The South Alabama Dillard win moved the Jaguars back above .500 at 6-5.
Bleu Devils Rally
South Alabama led NAIA Division I Dillard by six points at halftime, but the Bleu Devils came back to take a one-point lead midway through the second half. The Jaguars answered with a 17-3 run and then turned back a late Dillard push.
Dillard’s Tyrone Williams scored 35 points, the second-highest total in Mitchell Center history. Williams made 15 of 19 shots from the field, including 2 of 4 from 3-point range.
Rubit Nears 1,000 Rebounds
Augustine Rubit led South Alabama with 21 points and 11 rebounds. The double-double was his fifth of the season and the 47th of his career, the most among active NCAA Division I players. Rubit finished one rebound shy of 1,000 for his career. He made 3 of 10 free throws.
Junior Mychal Ammons added 17 points and seven rebounds, led the team with three assists and blocked two shots. Sophomore Barrington Stevens III scored 13 points, the third Jaguar in double figures.
