MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama basketball held its first intrasquad scrimmage of the preseason Monday afternoon at the Mitchell Center, with Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year Augustine Rubit recording 17 points and 12 rebounds.
First-year head coach Matthew Graves ran the team through four eight-minute quarters and used a variety of lineups to measure progress after two weeks of practice.
Scrimmage Statistics
Rubit, the reigning Sun Belt Player of the Year and one of two returning starters who played in the scrimmage, added a blocked shot in 26 minutes. Fellow returning starter Mychal Ammons had six points, three rebounds and a block in 16 minutes.
Sophomore Barrington Stevens III scored 10 points, and freshman guard Ken “Juice” Williams contributed six points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal in his first scrimmage action with the Jaguars.

Graves Sees Progress
Graves did not single out individual players after the scrimmage. He said several players had good moments but that the team remains a work in progress.
The scrimmage was the first chance for Graves to evaluate his roster in a game-style setting at the Mitchell Center, the Jaguars’ home arena. He said the Jaguars are heading in the right direction and that he is pleased with the improvement over the first two weeks of practice.
