MOBILE, Ala. — Carter Bradley threw four touchdown passes, Devin Voisin caught two of them, and Ke’Shun Brown returned an interception for a late touchdown as South Alabama beat Texas State 38-21 on Saturday at Hancock Whitney Stadium.
The Jaguars improved to 8-2 overall and 5-1 in the Sun Belt Conference. Texas State fell to 3-7 and 1-5.
Quick Start
South Alabama scored on its fourth offensive play, 1:43 into the game, when Voisin turned a short catch into a 41-yard touchdown. Diego Guajardo added a 35-yard field goal on the Jaguars’ second possession with 5:57 left in the first quarter.
Midway through the second quarter, Bradley threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to DJ Thomas-Jones. Guajardo’s 37-yard field goal attempt as time expired in the first half curled just left of the upright, leaving South Alabama ahead 17-0 at halftime.
Bobcats Respond
Texas State got on the scoreboard in the third quarter when Layne Hatcher threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Rontavius Groves. Two possessions later, Bradley found Caullin Lacy for a 41-yard touchdown on the same play that produced Voisin’s opening score.
Josh Berry’s 5-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter cut the lead to 24-14 with 13:49 remaining. South Alabama answered with a 28-yard touchdown pass from Bradley to Voisin that was initially ruled incomplete out of bounds but overturned on review, putting the Jaguars up 31-14 with 10:26 left.
Aided by South Alabama penalties, Texas State scored again when Hatcher kept the ball on a 3-yard run with 3:54 remaining.
Pick-Six Seals It
After a South Alabama punt, Jack Brooks angled the kick out of bounds at the Texas State 4-yard line. On the Bobcats’ first pass of the ensuing drive, Hatcher’s throw was tipped and intercepted by Ke’Shun Brown, who returned it 15 yards for a touchdown and the final margin.

- South Alabama outgained Texas State 380-230, with 274 passing yards and 106 rushing yards.
- Texas State had 143 passing yards and 87 rushing yards.

Bradley completed 20 of 34 passes for 274 yards and four touchdowns. Voisin caught six passes for 118 yards and two scores, Lacy had three catches for 58 yards and a touchdown, and Thomas-Jones caught three passes for 22 yards and a touchdown.
Marco Lee led South Alabama’s running backs with 57 yards on 14 carries. La’Damian Webb ran for 45 yards on 16 carries before leaving the game.
For Texas State, Hatcher completed 24 of 42 passes for 143 yards with a touchdown and an interception and ran for another score. Berry rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Lincoln Pare caught six passes for 30 yards, and Groves had three catches for 28 yards and a touchdown.
