MOBILE, Ala. — Former South Alabama defensive back B.J. Scott will get a look from the NFL after going unselected in last weekend’s draft. Scott has been invited to the Chicago Bears rookie minicamp, scheduled for May 10-12.
2012 Season
Scott, who stands 5-foot-11 and weighs 205 pounds, was third on the Jaguars in tackles in 2012 with 84, including 49 solo stops. He added six tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, three pass breakups, two quarterback hurries, one fumble recovery and two forced fumbles. He was named honorable mention All-Sun Belt Conference following the season.
In January, Scott was a late addition to the South team roster for the Senior Bowl, the annual all-star game for NFL prospects played in Mobile.
From Vigor to Tuscaloosa to Mobile
Scott played high school football at Vigor High School before signing with the University of Alabama. He spent three years in Tuscaloosa, including a redshirt season, and was a member of the Crimson Tide’s 2009 BCS national championship team. Alabama went 36-5 during his time with the program.
After dealing with an ankle injury and working at several positions with the Crimson Tide, Scott transferred to South Alabama.
2011 Season and Record Return Day
Scott started the first seven games of the 2011 season for the Jaguars before a knee injury suffered against Georgia State ended his season. Despite the missed games, he finished fifth on the team with 48 tackles and led the Jaguars with four passes defended.
In that game against Georgia State, Scott set a South Alabama single-game record with 180 kickoff return yards, including a 71-yard return on the opening play of the game. Georgia State won the game in overtime.
The Bears minicamp will give Scott an opportunity to compete for a place on an NFL roster as an undrafted free agent.
