South Alabama to Host Alabama State in 2018, Completing Non-Conference Football Schedule

South Alabama will host Alabama State on Oct. 13, 2018, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium, completing the Jaguars' 2018 non-conference football schedule.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama will host Alabama State at Ladd-Peebles Stadium on Oct. 13, 2018, completing the Jaguars’ non-conference football schedule for the 2018 season, Director of Athletics Dr. Joel Erdmann announced.

The game will be the first meeting between the Jaguars and the Hornets.

Second Straight Year With In-State Opponent

The agreement gives South Alabama a non-conference game against an in-state NCAA Division I program for a second consecutive season. The Jaguars are already scheduled to host Alabama A&M on Sept. 16, 2017.

2018 Non-Conference Schedule

With the addition of Alabama State, South Alabama’s 2018 non-conference slate is set:

  • Sept. 1: Louisiana Tech, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium
  • Sept. 8: at Oklahoma State
  • Sept. 22: at Memphis
  • Oct. 13: Alabama State, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium

Previous In-State Opponents

Before joining the Sun Belt Conference in 2012, South Alabama played two in-state, non-conference opponents. The Jaguars beat Huntingdon College 35-0 in their inaugural 2009 season and opened the 2011 season with a 20-0 win over West Alabama.

South Alabama had been scheduled to begin a home-and-home series with UAB this season, but those plans ended when UAB announced after last season that it was discontinuing its football program.

South Alabama, coached by Joey Jones, plays its home games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile.
