South Alabama Dismisses Running Back Cris Dinham for Violation of Team Rules

South Alabama dismissed running back Cris Dinham for a violation of team rules, the second running back to leave the program since spring drills ended.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama has dismissed running back Cris Dinham from the football program for a violation of team rules, head coach Joey Jones said.

Dinham, a 5-foot-10, 205-pound back, played one season for the Jaguars. He carried 57 times for 234 yards and two touchdowns, the third-highest rushing total on the team, and was expected to be part of the running back rotation this fall.

Second Running Back Dismissed Since Spring

Dinham is the second running back dismissed from the team since the end of spring drills. Kaleb Blanchard, a redshirt freshman from Denham Springs, La., was suspended before spring practice began and was dismissed after it ended, also for a violation of team rules.

Remaining Running Backs

South Alabama’s remaining running backs are Jay Jones, Kendall Houston, Terrance Timmons, Xavier Johnson and Berron Tyson. Additional players are expected to join the position group when fall practice begins.

Jones said on WNSP radio that he is comfortable with the team’s depth at running back, citing a mix of seniors in Jay Jones and Houston, an experienced player in Timmons and a talented young player in Johnson.

Jay Jones led the Jaguars in rushing last season with 737 yards and five touchdowns on 143 carries. Houston rushed 66 times for 209 yards and six touchdowns, with most of his work coming in short-yardage and goal-line situations. Timmons ran 16 times for 83 yards.

Looking Ahead to 2014

South Alabama enters its second season as a full member of the Sun Belt Conference and the Football Bowl Subdivision this fall. The Jaguars play their home games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile.
