South Alabama Dismisses Defensive Back Ken Barefield for Violating Team Rules

South Alabama has dismissed defensive back Ken Barefield, a starter in every game of the program's three-season history, for violating team rules.

MOBILE, Ala. — Ken Barefield has been dismissed from the South Alabama football team for violating unspecified team rules, according to reports Tuesday morning.

The Ken Barefield dismissal removes one of the most experienced players from the Jaguars’ roster. Barefield started every game in the program’s three-season history and was South Alabama’s fourth-leading tackler in 2011.

Barefield finishes his South Alabama career with:

  • 114 total tackles, including 63 solo stops
  • 7.5 tackles for loss
  • 3 forced fumbles
  • 2 fumble recoveries
  • 2 interceptions

Secondary Depth

South Alabama concentrated much of its recruiting this offseason on the secondary.

The Jaguars, who began playing football in 2009 under head coach Joey Jones, are scheduled to begin competing as a member of the Sun Belt Conference in 2012.
