MOBILE, Ala. — Former UAB tight end Gerald Everett will enroll at South Alabama in January, becoming the latest Blazers player to choose the Jaguars.
Everett, who is listed at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, gives South Alabama help at tight end, a position of need for the Jaguars.
Everett’s Background
Everett joined UAB after one season at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. In his season with the Blazers, he caught 17 passes for 292 yards and one touchdown.
He will have two years of eligibility remaining at South Alabama.
Growing List of UAB Transfers
Everett joins several former UAB players who have announced plans to continue their college careers at South Alabama. That group includes quarterbacks Cody Clements and Austin Chipoletti, offensive linemen Lee Dufour and Cameron Blankenship, and wide receiver and running back D.J. Vinson.
South Alabama is also pursuing UAB running back Jordan Howard, who is drawing interest from a number of schools. Howard visited the South Alabama campus this week and watched one of the Jaguars’ bowl practices.
Connections to the Blazers
South Alabama offensive coordinator Bryant Vincent spent the 2014 season as offensive coordinator at UAB before returning to the Jaguars’ staff. At UAB he worked under head coach Bill Clark, a former South Alabama defensive coordinator.
Vincent’s familiarity with the UAB players has been a factor as several of them have chosen South Alabama.
Bowl Preparation
The additions come as South Alabama prepares for its bowl game under head coach Joey Jones. The Jaguars, members of the Sun Belt Conference, play their home games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile.
