Short-Handed South Alabama Hosts West Division Leader Louisiana-Monroe for Homecoming

South Alabama, down to two available quarterbacks, hosts Sun Belt West leader Louisiana-Monroe in Saturday's homecoming game at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama hosts Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday in its homecoming game at Ladd-Peebles Stadium, with the Jaguars short on quarterbacks and the visiting Warhawks leading the Sun Belt Conference West Division.

South Alabama (2-7, 1-4 Sun Belt) has three games remaining and cannot finish with a winning record. Head coach Steve Campbell is expected to use the NCAA’s new redshirt rule to give freshmen playing time over the final stretch of the season.

Louisiana-Monroe (5-4, 3-2 Sun Belt) is a 6.5-point favorite.

Quarterback Situation

Senior starting quarterback Evan Orth left last week’s game in the third quarter with a shoulder injury and will not play Saturday. Desmond Trotter is also unavailable, leaving Cephus Johnson and Cole Garvin as the only quarterbacks available to South Alabama. Garvin has not played since September.

In last week’s game, South Alabama scored midway through the second quarter but did not score again until late in the fourth quarter. The Jaguars’ defense allowed a 78-yard touchdown pass in the game.

Warhawks Coming Off Big Win

Louisiana-Monroe beat Georgia Southern 44-25 at home last week. The Warhawks gained 573 total yards, including 236 rushing, while holding Georgia Southern to 216 total yards and 138 on the ground.

Series and Homecoming History

  • South Alabama has won nine consecutive homecoming games.
  • The Jaguars have won five of their last six November home games against Sun Belt opponents.
  • The series between the schools is tied 2-2, and neither team has won on the other’s home field. Louisiana-Monroe is 0-2 in Mobile.

The forecast for Saturday calls for a high of 56 degrees, with temperatures near 55 at kickoff and falling into the 40s after sunset.
