MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama head coach Joey Jones said Wednesday’s practice was “much better” than the previous day’s as the Jaguars continued preparing for Saturday’s South Alabama Louisiana-Monroe game in Monroe, La.
The Jaguars worked for more than two hours, focusing on Louisiana-Monroe’s tendencies while refining their own offensive and defensive game plans. The session had more energy than Tuesday’s workout.
A Bounce-Back Day
Jones said the team responded after a difficult Tuesday.
“We didn’t have a great one yesterday and I thought we played good today, practiced good today. We came focused,” Jones said. “I’m not making excuses, but we were kind of beat up and banged up and tired (Tuesday). But they came back today and that shows you what they’re all about.”
Respect for the Warhawks
Asked about his biggest concern, Jones pointed to the opponent.
“The greatest concern about our team is the team that we’re playing,” he said. “We’ve got a real good football team and we’ve got to do a lot of things well to be successful against this ball team.”
Jones said he asked his players what it would take to compete with the Warhawks and was encouraged by their answers.
“I asked the team today what’s it going to take and there were several ideas from them and you could tell there was a maturity about them and they understand some of the things we’ve got to do to play with Monroe,” Jones said. “They’re playing extremely well right now. Our biggest focus is doing what we have to do so we can be successful.”
