MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama football season tickets purchased now will cover any games added to the Jaguars’ inaugural 2009 home schedule at no extra cost, and as many as 18 recruits could visit campus this weekend, according to the program’s weekly radio show.
Coach Joey Jones joined host Lee Shirvanian by phone Wednesday from New Orleans, where he was recruiting. Director of football operations Brett Bedsole and Travis Toth, South Alabama’s marketing director, appeared in the studio.
Season Ticket Pricing
Season tickets are priced on a six-game home schedule, at $75 for sideline seats and $49 for end zone seats. Bedsole and Toth said a seventh home game is essentially set and the program is working on an eighth. Fans who buy now will receive any additional games at no extra charge.
Prices will increase after a cutoff date, which could come in March or April.
Asked about the caliber of South Alabama’s 2009 opponents, Bedsole and Toth did not name specific teams but said the Jaguars will play opponents they can compete with. They cited Hargrave, a school where some recruits who do not qualify academically for Division I programs enroll, as an example.
Signing Day Program
Jones outlined the format for the Feb. 4 National Signing Day event at the Mitchell Center, which begins at 4 p.m. Athletic director Joe Gottfried will speak first, followed by Jones discussing the overall class. Position coaches will then talk about individual signees, and short videos on the recruits will be shown during the program.
Recruiting Visits
Recruiting is currently open for all coaches. Thirteen prospects visited campus last weekend, and as many as 18 could visit this weekend. Eight or nine more may visit the following weekend, with the numbers subject to change depending on how many prospects commit during their visits.
A recruiting dead period begins Jan. 30 and runs through signing day.
Bedsole said feedback from recruits about their visits has been very positive. The program houses visiting prospects at the Battle House Hotel in downtown Mobile.
Senior Bowl Week in Mobile
With NFL coaches and scouts in Mobile for the Senior Bowl, which will be played this weekend at Ladd-Peebles Stadium, Shirvanian asked Jones about his own experience in the all-star game as a senior at Alabama. Ladd-Peebles Stadium will also serve as South Alabama’s home field when the Jaguars begin play this fall.
Jones and Shirvanian indicated that the Feb. 4 show will be the final Joey Jones Show of the current season.
