South Alabama Extends Tailgating Ban Through Remainder of 2020 Football Season

South Alabama Athletics announced that tailgating will remain prohibited at home football games for the rest of the 2020 season. The Jaguars have four home games remaining.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama will not allow tailgating at its home football games for the rest of the 2020 season, the athletics department announced in an email.

The decision extends a tailgating ban already in place for the season, which is being played during the COVID-19 pandemic. Fans attending games this fall will not be able to set up tailgates before or after kickoff for any of the remaining dates.

First Season in New Stadium

The restrictions come during South Alabama’s first season at Hancock Whitney Stadium, the Jaguars’ new on-campus home. The program played its home games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium from its first season in 2009 through 2019.

South Alabama is in its third season under head coach Steve Campbell and competes in the Sun Belt Conference.

Home Schedule

The Jaguars have played two of their six scheduled home games at Hancock Whitney Stadium and are midway through a four-game home stretch.

That stretch was altered when South Alabama’s rivalry game against Troy was moved to Dec. 12 after positive COVID-19 tests.

South Alabama hosts Texas State on Saturday, Oct. 17, and Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Remaining Schedule

After the Louisiana-Monroe game, the Jaguars play three consecutive road games. They return home Nov. 21 against Georgia State, travel to Arkansas State on Nov. 28 and close the regular season at home against Troy on Dec. 12.

  • Oct. 17: Texas State (home)
  • Oct. 24: Louisiana-Monroe (home)
  • Nov. 21: Georgia State (home)
  • Nov. 28: at Arkansas State
  • Dec. 12: Troy (home)

All of the remaining opponents listed are Sun Belt Conference members.
