MOBILE, Ala. — The University of South Alabama athletics department announced Wednesday that it will hold a series of “Jag Lunch” events featuring head football coach Joey Jones during the 2010 season, beginning next week ahead of the Jaguars’ game against Nicholls State.
The luncheons will be held at Wintzell’s Oyster House on Airport Boulevard in Mobile. Admission is $10 per person.
Schedule and Format
Each Jag Lunch will take place on a Wednesday. The announced dates are:
- Wednesday, Sept. 15
- Wednesday, Oct. 6
- Wednesday, Oct. 20
- Wednesday, Oct. 27
- Wednesday, Nov. 10
Doors will open at 11:30 a.m., when food service also begins. The program starts at 12:15 p.m., with Jones addressing attendees and showing highlights from the coaches’ game film.
The first session on Sept. 15 falls during the week South Alabama prepares to face Nicholls State.
Second Season Under Way
The luncheon series comes as South Alabama plays its second season of football. Jones has led the program since its creation, and the Jaguars began play in 2009 with home games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile.
South Alabama opened the 2010 season last week with a 56-0 shutout of Pikeville. The athletics department held a pep rally on the evening before that game.
The Jag Lunch events give fans a weekly opportunity during the season to hear from Jones about the team and review game film with the head coach. Fans planning to attend can arrive at Wintzell’s beginning at 11:30 a.m. on each scheduled date.
