South Alabama's home opener against Mississippi State will kick off at 3 p.m. Sept. 13 on ESPNews, and the Oct. 24 Troy game is set for 6:30 p.m. on ESPNU.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama has announced kickoff times and television plans for two of its 2014 home football games, the Sept. 13 home opener against Mississippi State and the Oct. 24 Sun Belt Conference game against Troy.

Mississippi State: Sept. 13, 3 p.m.

The Jaguars’ home opener against Mississippi State will kick off at 3 p.m. Central on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium and will be televised nationally on ESPNews.

The game is the second in a three-game series between the schools. South Alabama played at Mississippi State in Starkville in 2012 and will return to Starkville in 2016 for the final game of the series.

Troy: Oct. 24, 6:30 p.m.

South Alabama will host in-state Sun Belt rival Troy on Friday, Oct. 24, at 6:30 p.m. at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. ESPNU will televise the game nationally.

It will be the third meeting between the programs, and each of the three has been televised.

Last Season’s Finish

Troy won last season’s meeting 34-33. South Alabama trailed 24-7 early in the third quarter before scoring 20 points in the fourth quarter. Ross Metheny threw a 65-yard touchdown pass to Jereme Jones and then hit Corey Besteda for a two-point conversion, giving the Jaguars a 33-27 lead with 48 seconds remaining.

Troy answered when Corey Robinson’s pass into the end zone was caught by Eric Thomas for a touchdown, and the extra point put the Trojans ahead 34-33 with seven seconds left. South Alabama’s final play, from its own 32-yard line with one second remaining, did not reach the end zone.
