South Alabama at Nebraska Set for Prime-Time National Broadcast on Big Ten Network

South Alabama's Sept. 12 game at Nebraska will air nationally in prime time on the Big Ten Network, giving the Jaguars three national broadcasts in 2015.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama’s Sept. 12 football game at Nebraska will be televised nationally in prime time on the Big Ten Network, it was announced Monday. The South Alabama Nebraska game in Lincoln, Neb., gives the Jaguars three nationally televised games for the 2015 season, joining two previously announced broadcasts.

One of 10 Evening Games

The matchup was one of 10 games the network selected for evening broadcast. An exact kickoff time will be announced later.

The game is the first of two scheduled meetings between the schools, with the second set for Aug. 31, 2019. It will be the Jaguars’ first game against a Big Ten Conference opponent.

Coming Off First Bowl Appearance

South Alabama, a member of the Sun Belt Conference coached by Joey Jones, made its first bowl appearance last season, becoming the fastest program to reach an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision bowl game from its startup. The Jaguars lost to Bowling Green in the inaugural Raycom Media Camellia Bowl.

Nebraska Under New Leadership

Nebraska went 9-4 overall and 5-3 in Big Ten play in 2014 and played in the Holiday Bowl. The school dismissed its head coach after the season and hired Mike Riley.

Riley spent 14 seasons as head coach at Oregon State over two stints, from 1997 to 1998 and from 2003 to 2014. He also was head coach of the NFL’s San Diego Chargers from 1999 to 2001, the Canadian Football League’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 1987 to 1990, where he won two Grey Cup championships, and the San Antonio Riders of the World League of American Football from 1991 to 1992.
