MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama defensive end Pat Moore has been named the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after blocking two field goal attempts in the Jaguars’ double-overtime win over Florida Atlantic.
The victory was South Alabama’s first as a Football Bowl Subdivision program and its first in Sun Belt Conference play.
Two Blocks Swing the Game
Moore blocked a 32-yard Florida Atlantic attempt with 12 seconds remaining in regulation, sending the game to overtime. During Florida Atlantic’s possession in the second overtime, he blocked a 44-yard attempt.
Moore also made three tackles, all of them for loss, including a sack.
Moore is a 6-foot-3, 235-pound junior who transferred to South Alabama from Northeast Mississippi Community College.
Second Straight Week for a Jaguar
Moore’s award gives South Alabama the conference’s special teams honor for a second consecutive week. Kicker Michel Chapuseaux earned the award last week after kicking three field goals at Arkansas State, becoming the first South Alabama football player to receive a weekly Sun Belt honor.
Other Sun Belt Honorees
Louisiana-Monroe quarterback Kolton Browning was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week. Browning completed 22 of 41 passes for 308 yards and four touchdowns as the Warhawks erased a 28-7 deficit to beat Western Kentucky in overtime.
North Texas linebacker Zach Orr was named Defensive Player of the Week after recording nine tackles and an interception against Louisiana-Lafayette. Orr ranks second in the conference in tackles and is tied for sixth in interceptions.
South Alabama plays at Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday.
