MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama senior kicker Michel Chapuseaux was named the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday, becoming the first Jaguar to earn a conference weekly honor twice.
Chapuseaux became the first player in South Alabama history to win a Sun Belt weekly award in October. His second selection came after his performance against Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday.
Three Field Goals Against the Ragin’ Cajuns
Chapuseaux, a native of Fruitland Park, Fla., matched his career high with three field goals and finished with 12 points in South Alabama’s 52-30 loss to Louisiana-Lafayette.
New School Record
With the performance, Chapuseaux set a South Alabama single-season record with 83 points.
He also moved into first place in the Sun Belt with 20 field goals this season. That total is two shy of the conference’s single-season record.
Season Finale at Hawaii
Chapuseaux will have one more opportunity to add to his scoring record and to tie or break the Sun Belt single-season field goal mark when South Alabama plays at Hawaii on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 10 p.m. Central.
The game concludes South Alabama’s first season as a Sun Belt Conference football member. The Jaguars are coached by Joey Jones, who has led the program since it began play in 2009.
