MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama senior kicker Michel Chapuseaux was named the Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday, becoming the first Jaguars football player to receive a weekly award from the conference.
Chapuseaux earned the honor after his performance in South Alabama’s road loss at Arkansas State on Saturday.
Three Field Goals in Jonesboro
Chapuseaux tied his career high with three field goals and scored a season-best 11 points against the Red Wolves.
He opened his scoring with a 26-yard field goal near the midpoint of the first quarter, extending South Alabama’s early lead to 10-0. Just before halftime, he connected from 39 yards to pull the Jaguars within 14-13. He added a 42-yard field goal in the third quarter.
Chapuseaux also made both of his extra-point attempts in the game.
Season Numbers
Chapuseaux is a perfect 9-for-9 on extra points this season. He ranks second in the Sun Belt with nine field goals, an average of 1.5 per game, and has converted 69.2 percent of his attempts.
A Program First
The award is a milestone for South Alabama, which is playing its first season as a member of the Sun Belt Conference in football. The Jaguars began playing football in 2009 under head coach Joey Jones and play their home games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile.
