MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama softball begins its 2017 season Thursday evening at Jaguar Field, with first pitch set for 5 p.m. on the University of South Alabama campus.
The opener starts a busy month at home for the Jaguars, who are scheduled to host three tournaments in February.
Sand Dollar Classic Begins Friday
The first of those events, the Sand Dollar Classic, gets underway Friday. South Alabama’s tournament schedule includes games against Central Arkansas, Houston Baptist, Jacksonville State and Alabama State.
The four opponents give the Jaguars a mix of in-state and regional competition in the opening days of the season. Jacksonville State and Alabama State both travel from within Alabama, while Central Arkansas and Houston Baptist come from Arkansas and Texas, respectively.
New Scoreboard at Jaguar Field
Thursday’s game will also be the first played with the new scoreboard at Jaguar Field.
Looking Ahead
South Alabama competes in the Sun Belt Conference. The Sand Dollar Classic is the first of three tournaments South Alabama will host at Jaguar Field this month, all part of the nonconference portion of the schedule.
