South Alabama Softball Reaches Program-Best No. 12, Debuts at No. 7 in NCAA RPI

The 25-3 Jaguars rose to No. 12 in the USA Today/NFCA poll, the highest ranking in program history, and stand seventh in the NCAA Division I RPI.

MOBILE, Ala. — The South Alabama softball RPI ranking stands at No. 7 in the nation, and the Jaguars reached a new program high in the national polls this week.

South Alabama (25-3) moved up one spot to No. 12 in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25, the highest ranking in program history. The Jaguars held at No. 13 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25.

Polls

Alabama is the top-ranked team from the state at No. 7 in the USA Today poll and No. 5 in the ESPN.com poll. South Alabama is second. Auburn, 22nd in the USA Today poll and 21st in the ESPN.com poll, is the only other team from the state in the Top 25.

Louisiana-Lafayette, 20th in the USA Today poll and 22nd in the ESPN.com poll, is the only other Sun Belt Conference team ranked.

RPI Rankings

In the NCAA Division I softball RPI, South Alabama is seventh nationally. The Jaguars hold victories this season over several teams that are or have been ranked, including a 3-2 win over a team that was 13th in the USA Today/NFCA poll at the time and now holds the No. 1 RPI.

South Alabama leads the Sun Belt in the RPI. The rest of the league’s teams rank as follows:

  • Louisiana-Lafayette, 20th
  • Western Kentucky, 67th
  • Troy, 84th
  • Texas State, 96th
  • Georgia State, 97th
  • UT Arlington, 108th
  • Louisiana-Monroe, 157th

Among schools in Alabama, the Crimson Tide are No. 2 in the RPI, followed by South Alabama. Auburn is 21st, UAB 32nd, Troy 84th, Jacksonville State 106th, Samford 113th, Alabama State 283rd and Alabama A&M 284th.

South Alabama plays at Troy this evening, then returns home for a weekend Sun Belt series against Louisiana-Monroe. The Jaguars visit Alabama in Tuscaloosa on April 2 at 6 p.m.
