MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama will hold a brief walk-through Friday before traveling to New Orleans, where the Jaguars face Tulane on Saturday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.
Week of Preparation
The Jaguars wrapped up their heavy work for the week with a physical, two-hour practice focused on the game plan for Tulane. On Friday, the team planned a short walk-through in shorts in Mobile, followed by a stop at the Superdome for a walk-through after arriving in New Orleans.
Head coach Joey Jones said he was pleased with the week of practice but stressed that the team must carry that work onto the field on game day.
After the Jaguars lost their season opener, Jones told his team it needed to improve. He told AL.com he believes the message was received.
“I think it has. I know it has,” Jones said. “I know our seniors have taken it to heart and the biggest thing is we want to earn some respect and just get out there and just play well and let the scoreboard take care of itself.”
South Alabama committed one turnover in its opener, a fourth-quarter interception.
Tulane Offense
Tulane enters the game with a balanced offense led by quarterback Nick Montana, running back Orleans Darkwa and wide receiver Ryan Grant.
Tulane Defense
The Green Wave defensive line includes two transfers from LSU, Jeremy Peeples and Chris Davenport, as well as another player who transferred from a Southeastern Conference program. Safety Darion Monroe leads a defense that features several sophomores who played as true freshmen last season.
Tulane opened its season last week with a 34-7 victory over Jackson State in which the Green Wave forced six turnovers.
How to Follow
The game will be broadcast in the Mobile area on WNSP 105.5 FM and online at wnsp.com. A live video stream is expected to be available through Tulane’s athletics website.
Update: Game-Day Notes
South Alabama entered Saturday’s game in New Orleans as a seven-point underdog against Tulane. The Jaguars are coming off a season-opening loss to Southern Utah, a game in which South Alabama held the lead in the fourth quarter.
Coach Joey Jones and his staff put the team through a demanding week of practice following the opener. On defense, the Jaguars’ focus included generating more pressure on Tulane quarterback Nick Montana and limiting big plays in the secondary.
After the trip to the Superdome, South Alabama’s upcoming schedule includes games against Western Kentucky, Tennessee and Troy.
