South Alabama Left Tackle Ucambre Williams Named to Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List

Senior left tackle Ucambre Williams is South Alabama's second straight player on the Rotary Lombardi Award preseason watch list.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama senior left tackle Ucambre Williams has been named to the 2014 Rotary Lombardi Award watch list, the Rotary Lombardi Award Committee announced Monday.

It is the second straight year a Jaguar has made the preseason Lombardi Award watch list. Alex Page was on the list last season.

Preseason Recognition

Williams, a 6-foot-3, 295-pound senior from Phenix City, Ala., enters preseason camp as South Alabama’s starting left tackle. The two-year starter was also named to the preseason All-Sun Belt Conference second team by both Phil Steele and Athlon Sports.

A Strong 2013 Season

Williams earned second-team All-Sun Belt honors last season after grading out at a team-best 89 percent with 43 pancake blocks. He did not allow a sack on any of South Alabama’s 394 pass plays.

He was the offensive line’s coaches’ award winner three times in 2013, after games against Tulane, Georgia State and Louisiana-Lafayette. Williams posted a season-high 94 percent grade against Georgia State, recorded six knockdown blocks against Tulane and matched his high grade against Troy, when the Jaguars set a school record with 630 yards of total offense. He graded at 90 percent or better six times during the season.

In 2012, Williams earned the coaches’ award after games against nationally ranked Mississippi State and UTSA.

About the Award

The Rotary Lombardi Award is open to down linemen on offense or defense who line up no more than 10 yards to either side of the ball, and to linebackers who line up no more than five yards off the line of scrimmage.

The 45th annual Rotary Lombardi Award ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the Bayou Music Center in Houston.
