South Alabama Volleyball Snaps Skid With Five-Set Win at ULM, Falls at Arkansas State

South Alabama volleyball ended a three-match losing streak with a five-set win at Louisiana-Monroe before falling at Arkansas State.

South Alabama volleyball snapped a three-match losing streak Friday with a five-set win at Louisiana-Monroe, then lost in straight sets at Arkansas State on Sunday.

Five-Set Win in Monroe

South Alabama beat the Warhawks 3-2 by set scores of 25-20, 20-25, 25-17, 19-25 and 15-13.

Mechell Daniel recorded her team-leading eighth double-double of the season. Mallory Moore added 16 kills, Jessica Lewis had 15 and Nikki Gittens had 11.

Junior setter Emily Hundt posted her seventh double-double with 60 assists and 10 digs. Senior libero Jenna Hassell had a season-high 26 digs, and Kelly Little added a season-best 14 digs off the bench.

South Alabama outdug Louisiana-Monroe 87-71, held a 67-38 edge in assists and finished with 73 kills to the Warhawks’ 44.

Straight-Set Loss at Arkansas State

In the second of three straight road matches, South Alabama fell to Arkansas State 3-0 by scores of 25-21, 25-22 and 25-17.

Sophomore Mechell Daniel led the Jaguars with 14 kills and 15 digs, both team highs, for her ninth double-double of the season. Gittens had 10 kills, Symone Stephenson added six kills while hitting .385, and Hassell had 14 digs.

Standings and Schedule

South Alabama fell to 10-12 overall and 5-7 in the Sun Belt Conference. Arkansas State improved to 13-8 overall and 8-4 in the Sun Belt.

The Jaguars complete their road trip Friday, Oct. 31, at Georgia Southern before returning home to host Texas State.
