MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama women’s basketball coach Terry Fowler announced Monday the promotion of Mallory Luckett to assistant head coach and the hiring of Matthew Daniels as director of basketball operations.
Luckett Moves Up From Operations Role
Luckett served as the Jaguars’ director of operations last season after spending the previous three seasons on Fowler’s staff at the University of North Alabama.
At UNA, she spent her first two seasons as a graduate assistant, then moved into an assistant coaching role for the 2012-13 season after earning a master’s degree in criminal justice.
In her first season working with Fowler, the Lions went 21-7, won the Gulf South Conference East Division and advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time since 1994.
Playing Career at Murray State
Luckett played four seasons at Murray State. She joined the Racers as a walk-on, earned a scholarship as a sophomore and started during her junior and senior seasons.
As a senior, she recorded 14 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds against Jacksonville State, becoming the only player in Murray State history to post a triple-double.
Daniels Joins From Jacksonville
Daniels spent the 2013-14 season as a graduate assistant on the men’s basketball staff at Jacksonville University under coach Cliff Warren. With the Dolphins, he organized and edited video for scouting and player development and scheduled team functions and events.
Daniels earned a bachelor of science degree from UNA in 2012 and began work on a master of education degree at Jacksonville. At UNA, he was a student manager for four seasons, from 2008 to 2012, under men’s coach Bobby Champagne, and as a senior also worked in the school’s compliance office.
He has been a member of Rising Coaches Elite since June 2011.
South Alabama competes in the Sun Belt Conference and plays home games at the Mitchell Center.
