Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office deputies took a suspect into custody Monday after responding to a homicide in the Wash Branch Road area of Bay Minette, according to authorities.
Deputies were called to the area, located between Crossroads and Spanish Fort, on Monday afternoon. According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, investigators discovered that a victim had been stabbed multiple times.
Within hours of the initial call, officials confirmed one suspect had been taken into custody. Investigators said there is no known ongoing threat to the public as a result of the case.
Deputies and crime scene personnel remained on scene throughout the investigation, and the sheriff’s office asked residents to avoid the area while evidence was processed. Officials have not yet released the identities of the victim or the suspect, and the sheriff’s office said additional details will be released as they become available.
Homicide investigations in Baldwin County typically involve a joint effort between sheriff’s deputies, crime scene investigators and, in some cases, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation. Once a suspect is in custody, prosecutors with the Baldwin County District Attorney’s Office review the evidence gathered at the scene before formal charges are presented to a grand jury, a process that can take several weeks.
South Alabama News will continue to update this story as the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office releases additional information.
