Former South Alabama basketball player Xavier Roberson has been charged in connection with a Christmas Eve home burglary in Tyler, Texas, according to a report by KLTV in Tyler.
Roberson was arrested Jan. 21 by police in Humble, Texas, and was transferred to Tyler on Jan. 24, according to the report. He is being held on $300,000 bond. A charge is an accusation, and Roberson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
Police Account
According to the KLTV report, Tyler police responded to a burglary alarm at a residence on Dec. 24 and found that a burglary had taken place. A caller gave dispatchers a description of a vehicle linked to a suspect. An officer spotted the vehicle and tried to stop it, and police said the occupants threw stolen jewelry from the vehicle before getting away.
Police later identified Roberson as one of the suspects, the report said. Investigators are still working to identify two other suspects.
Suspended in December
Roberson was suspended indefinitely from the South Alabama men’s basketball team in December by interim head coach Jeff Price for violating team and university rules. The specific rules involved were not identified at the time of the suspension.
Roberson had missed time during the previous season after breaking a bone in his foot. South Alabama competes in the Sun Belt Conference and plays its home games at the Mitchell Center in Mobile.
