MOBILE, Ala. — The first recruit signed by new South Alabama men’s basketball coach Matt Graves drew national attention when NBC Sports’ College Basketball Talk wrote about Austin Karazsia.
Kevin Doyle’s article focused on Karazsia as the first signee of the Graves era at South Alabama.
A Two-Sport Standout
Karazsia starred in two sports at Linton-Stockton High School. In addition to basketball, he played quarterback for the football team, passing for 3,328 yards and 42 touchdowns.
The Butler Comparison
Graves was hired this spring to succeed Ronnie Arrow and came to South Alabama from the Butler staff. He completed his first South Alabama coaching staff in April with the hire of Dan Matic. Doyle raised the question of whether Graves could build South Alabama into a “Butler south,” but wrote that it was too early to make such a claim.
South Alabama competes in the Sun Belt Conference and plays its home games at the Mitchell Center.
