MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama men’s basketball coach Matt Graves announced Tuesday that former Butler standout Ronald Nored will join the Jaguars as an assistant coach.
Nored, a native of Homewood, Ala., returns to his home state after one season as head coach at Brownsburg High School in Indiana. His Brownsburg team opened the season 3-8 before finishing 11-10.
Butler Career
Nored played in a school-record 143 games at Butler, including a school-record 16 postseason games. During his four seasons, the Bulldogs won 109 games, went 12-4 in postseason play and reached postseason tournaments in four consecutive years.
Butler won three Horizon League regular-season championships and two league tournament titles with Nored on the roster and played in back-to-back NCAA Division I championship games.
Senior Season and School Records
As a senior, Nored led the Horizon League with a 1.9 assist-to-turnover ratio and ranked second in the league at 5.2 assists per game. His 193 assists that season set a Butler single-season record, breaking the previous mark of 172.
Nored ranks second on Butler’s career assists list with 497. He is the second player in school history to record at least 400 points, 400 rebounds and 400 assists in a career.
Butler Connection
Nored joins a staff that includes Darnell Archey, another former Butler player, whom Graves named as his first hire earlier this month. South Alabama competes in the Sun Belt Conference and plays home games at the Mitchell Center.
