Mobile County public schools head back Thursday, August 4, and retailers across the area are banking on the annual supply rush with specials aimed at the thousands of students stocking up for the 2022-23 school year.
The district is one of Alabama’s largest: MCPSS counts 90 schools serving more than 53,000 students, including 14 national Blue Ribbon schools and 12 signature academies. One thing the system does not do is issue a single countywide supply list — each school posts its own list on its website.
Where the Deals Are
Target has certain supplies priced as low as 25 cents, plus a “School List Assist” feature that lets parents search their student’s school, order online and pick up in store. Walmart is running its own array of deals and offers a searchable tool matching schools to their supply lists. Staples’ “Let’s Go Forward 2 School” promotions cover everything from scientific calculators to ballpoint pens, with a searchable list lookup as well. Office Depot’s “Success Is in Session, Back 2 School” sale includes hundreds of items sorted by grade level.
Families hunting for complete lists can also turn to third-party aggregators such as TeachersList.com, which compiles lists from schools across Mobile County. Private and Christian schools return later — most begin Wednesday, Aug. 17.
