Baldwin County’s collegiate athletics footprint in 2022 was modest but active, according to federal athletics disclosure data: the county’s sole university fielded rosters that included 134 men and 142 women who played on at least one intercollegiate team during the year. The count excludes students competing only in intramural leagues.
Baseball drew the largest participation among the school’s teams, followed by basketball and softball.
Athletic Aid Totaled $1.84 Million
Institutional support ran well into seven figures. Athletically related financial aid at Baldwin County’s collegiate programs totaled $1,838,270 in 2022, and the average institutional gift aid for a student-athlete came to roughly $17,000.
Most of those athletes were also earning their degrees on someone else’s dime in part: about 80 percent received some form of academic grant or need-based scholarship alongside any athletic money.
The disclosure data also points to a broader pattern familiar to college sports nationwide — student-athletes graduate at higher rates than non-athletes overall, and female athletes graduate at higher rates than their male counterparts.
