Bay Minette Drug Arrest: Police Find Cocaine, Marijuana in Grove Street Search; More Actions Planned
Bay Minette police arrested a resident on felony charges after a search warrant at a Grove Street home turned up cocaine, marijuana and packaging materials. Police say more enforcement actions are planned.
BAY MINETTE, Ala. — A Bay Minette drug arrest on Grove Street has led to felony charges against a resident, and police say more enforcement actions are on the way as an ongoing investigation continues.
Officers with the Bay Minette Police Department served a search warrant Thursday, Oct. 15, at a home in the 1100 block of Grove Street and arrested a person who lives there, the department said. Police have not publicly released the resident’s name.
What police say they found
According to the department, investigators searching the home found:
- Powder cocaine
- Marijuana
- Plastic baggies
- Boxes for digital scales
- A vacuum-sealed bag containing marijuana residue
Police did not release the amounts of the drugs seized. Items such as baggies, scales and vacuum-sealed packaging are often cited by investigators as signs that drugs were being packaged for sale rather than personal use, though prosecutors must prove any such allegation in court.
Charges and earlier operations
The resident faces felony charges stemming from the search, police said. Investigators said the same person also faces several additional felony charges connected to recent covert operations, a term that generally refers to undercover work such as controlled drug purchases. The department has not detailed the specific charges.
Charges are accusations, and the resident is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
More enforcement planned
Police described the case as ongoing and said more enforcement actions are planned. The department did not say how many people or locations could be involved.
Grove Street is a residential street in Bay Minette. Last month, the street was also the scene of a shooting in which a woman was wounded in her driveway; a Bay Minette man was charged with attempted murder in that case. There is no indication the two cases are connected.

How Alabama treats drug charges
Under Alabama law, possession of a controlled substance such as cocaine is generally a felony, while charges can be more serious if prosecutors allege a person was distributing drugs or possessed large enough amounts to reach the state’s trafficking thresholds. Possession of marijuana for personal use is typically a misdemeanor for a first offense, but possession for other than personal use is a felony.
