MOBILE, Ala. — Bistro Saint Emanuel has been named the Downtown Mobile Alliance’s Member of the Month, an honor that follows the restaurant’s enthusiastic role in this year’s Downtown Mobile Restaurant Week.

The restaurant, located at Fort Condé, served as the first stop of the Restaurant Week Progressive Dinner, and the Alliance credited the Bistro with helping set the tone for the entire evening.

Setting the Tone for the Progressive Dinner

A progressive dinner moves guests from one restaurant to the next over the course of an evening, with each stop typically serving a different course. As the opening stop, Bistro Saint Emanuel had the job of making the first impression — welcoming diners, starting the evening on a high note and building momentum for the restaurants that followed.

According to the Downtown Mobile Alliance, the Bistro did exactly that.

The Alliance also praised the restaurant for promoting Restaurant Week on social media and for its active participation throughout the week. Restaurant Week depends on participating businesses helping spread the word, and the Bistro’s promotion helped draw attention not only to its own offerings but to the downtown dining scene as a whole.

A Christmas Encore?

The Bistro’s enthusiasm did not end when Restaurant Week did. Following the Progressive Dinner, the Bistro Saint Emanuel team suggested bringing the concept back with a Christmas-themed progressive dinner.

No details or dates for a holiday progressive dinner have been announced. But the suggestion reflects the kind of initiative the Alliance highlighted in selecting the restaurant for the honor, and it could give downtown diners something to look forward to during the holiday season.

Why the Bistro Was Honored

The Alliance said the Member of the Month recognition honors the restaurant’s:

  • Creativity in its approach to Restaurant Week and the Progressive Dinner
  • Enthusiasm for downtown events and promotion
  • Efforts to create memorable downtown dining experiences

About Fort Condé

Bistro Saint Emanuel’s home at Fort Condé places it in one of downtown Mobile’s most historic settings. Fort Condé was the French colonial fort that anchored early Mobile after the city moved to its present site in the early 1700s. A partial reconstruction of the fort stands today near the Mobile riverfront, close to Mobile’s convention center and the heart of downtown, making it a convenient stop for visitors and residents alike.

About the Downtown Mobile Alliance

The Downtown Mobile Alliance is an organization that works to promote and strengthen downtown Mobile, including its businesses, events and quality of life. Its Member of the Month recognition highlights member businesses that contribute to the vitality of the downtown area.

Events such as Downtown Mobile Restaurant Week are designed to bring residents and visitors downtown, introduce them to new places to eat and support local restaurants. When participating businesses go the extra mile — as the Alliance said Bistro Saint Emanuel did — the benefits extend to the entire district.
