Cafe 219, a downtown Mobile dining staple for more than two decades, will close its doors for good on June 16.
The announcement came in a Facebook post from the restaurant, which sits at the corner of Conti and N. Joachim streets in the LoDa section of downtown. The cafe has been serving the city since 2001.
A Family Decision
In the post, the owners thanked their loyal customers for a strong final year. “We want to thank EVERYONE for coming back in, making us feel so welcomed and being such loyal customers,” it read. “Although it is sad for us, it is also a very necessary decision for our family.”
The owners explained that with two of their six children still at home, they need “more time with us than being in this business allows.”
The family also expressed gratitude to current and former staff members. “You have become like family to us and we could NOT have got THIS far without you!” the post read.
Patrons who want one last meal at Cafe 219 have until June 16 to stop by.
